Three Generations Serving Greater Philadelphia

Since 1977, Friendship Pharmacy has been a trusted partner for long-term care facilities — a family business built on relationships, clinical expertise, and community.

Three Generations Serving Greater Philadelphia
Our History

Nearly Five Decades of Trusted Care

The Beginning
1977

The Beginning

After years working at Jones’ Pharmacy, Frank A. Rubino, RPh purchases the business from its owner, Irving Tannenbaum. Frank insists on staying at the original Northeast Philadelphia address — a decision that says everything about who he is. He becomes a neighborhood institution, serving local families and building the kind of relationships that keep people coming back for decades.

The Second Generation
1988

The Second Generation

Frank’s son, Frank Rubino II, RPh, graduates from Temple University’s School of Pharmacy and joins the family business. Like his father before him, he plants roots in Northeast Philadelphia — deepening ties with local families, physicians, and hospitals, and expanding the pharmacy’s reach across the community.

A New Chapter in Senior Care

A New Chapter in Senior Care

Noticing that longtime customers were aging into assisted living and skilled nursing facilities — and that their pharmacy needs weren’t being well-served — Friendship Pharmacy launches dedicated long-term care services. Delivery programs, extended support hours, and clinical pharmacy services bring the same neighborhood care model into a new and growing space.

Innovation Meets Tradition

Innovation Meets Tradition

The third generation arrives. Francis Rubino, RPh grew up behind the counter and always knew pharmacy was his path. After graduating from Temple’s School of Pharmacy, he joins the family business and leads a new era of investment — integrating advanced pharmacy management systems and expanding clinical consulting services. The technology changes. The values don’t.

Strengthening the Foundation

Strengthening the Foundation

Francis’ brother Anthony Rubino, RPh follows the same well-worn path — Temple School of Pharmacy, years working the retail floor, and eventually a formal role in the business. Anthony takes the lead on retail operations and logistics, building the operational infrastructure that allows Friendship to grow without losing the responsiveness it’s always been known for.

A Family Business, Fully Grown
Today

A Family Business, Fully Grown

What started as a single neighborhood pharmacy is now a trusted clinical partner for long-term care communities across Greater Philadelphia. Three generations. The same family. The same commitment to knowing our patients — and our partners — by name.

Our Philosophy

Our Family's Promise to Yours

When Frank A. Rubino opened Friendship Pharmacy in 1977, he made a promise: to treat every resident and every facility as if they were family. That promise has been renewed by each generation since.

Today, three generations of the Rubino family are actively involved — not as a corporate strategy, but because we genuinely care about the people we serve. Our pharmacists know your Directors of Nursing by name. Our drivers know which facility has a narrow loading dock. Our consultants have watched residents improve because we caught an interaction no one else noticed.

This is what family-owned pharmacy looks like in practice: accountability that doesn’t end at the shift change, relationships that span decades, and a standard of care we’d want for our own loved ones.

Our Community

Rooted in Greater Philadelphia

Northeast Philadelphia is where Friendship Pharmacy was born, and Greater Philadelphia is where we’ve grown. This is home. Our pharmacists, our drivers, and our owners all live and work in the communities we serve — across Philadelphia, Montgomery, Delaware, and Bucks counties.

When you work with us, you’re not working with a regional rep who visits once a quarter — you’re working with people who live here, who care about this city, and who have been a part of its fabric since 1977.

What We Stand For

Our Core Values

Integrity

Integrity

We say what we mean and do what we say. No surprise fees, no runaround, no passing the buck. Just straight, honest communication with the people who depend on us.

Excellence

Excellence

There's no acceptable margin of error when health is on the line. We hold ourselves to rigorous standards — clinically, operationally, and in every interaction with your staff and residents.

Compassion

Compassion

Every resident behind a prescription has a family who loves them. We don't forget that. Our team brings patience, empathy, and genuine care to every interaction — not because it's policy, but because it's who we are.

Accountability

Accountability

When something needs attention, we show up. We follow through. And if something goes wrong, we own it and make it right — no excuses, no finger-pointing.

Community

Community

Nearly 50 years in Greater Philadelphia isn't just a milestone — it's a commitment. We're invested in this region, these facilities, and the residents who call them home. That's not a value we adopted. It's one we were built on.
